Incorporated in 2006 as a non-profit corporation, the American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) encourages and supports the scholarly study of the South Caucasus states (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia) across all disciplines of the Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences from the earliest times to the present.

ARISC’s mission is to promote and encourage American research in the region and to foster intellectual inquiry across boundaries within the South Caucasus as well as between the South Caucasus and its neighbors.

In the years since its inception, ARISC has sponsored numerous lectures, workshops and conferences on a range of topics concerning the South Caucasus in the US and all three South Caucasus states and has representatives in all three countries. ARISC has grown to have an annual graduate student fellowship award and a collaborative heritage management grant.
